Girne American University (GAU)

The Girne American University (GAU) was founded in 1985 as the first private higher education institution in Kyrenia and recently celebrated its 35th anniversary. The goal of the university since its foundation is to provide comprehensive Higher Education of American standards for students from different nationalities in North Cyprus.

General Information

The Girne American University was founded by the American Educational Consortium, an international organization formed to interact with educational institutions offering education in the American system. The university is constantly developing and improving, and also meets the high educational standards set by the education system.

GAU campuses are located in several countries, such as the USA, UK, Singapore and Turkey. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, doctorate, professional programs and summer language school. GAU also collaborates with many international universities, actively offering exchange programs to other countries.

International relations

The Girne American University is a truly international university with more than 18,000 students from around the world. GAU is recognized by the British National Recognition Information Centre (UK NARIC) which is of the highest importance for students who intend to continue their higher education in the United Kingdom and build their future professional career there.

Accommodation

Everything has been done on the GAU campus to make students feel comfortable. This is a modern educational building with bright spacious classrooms, where lessons are held, as well as a garden, a pool with a fountain, and, of course, dormitories for living. GAU provides dormitories for its students on campus - three for girls and one for boys. European-class dormitories are not far from the university. The bus service runs from early morning until nine in the evening, running from each dormitory to the university, as well as to the city center and back to the university.

On the territory of the university campus there are more than 20 clubs for various sports interests: tennis, basketball, volleyball, horse riding, bodybuilding and ballet.
The university has an excellent material and technical base, its own radio station and satellite communications, Internet access from any computer at the university. GAU laboratories, educational research centers, libraries are equipped with the latest technologies.

Scholarship

All international students upon admission to GAU receive a 50% scholarship on tuition. The university provides an amazing opportunity to receive scholarship of 75% on tuition after completion of GAU summer school.
