The Near East University, established in 1988, is located in Nicosia, capital of North Cyprus, and as an international higher education institution employing highly qualified staff, offers the most extensive undergraduate and postgraduate education opportunities to over 27 thousand students coming from over 102 countries.
The Near East University has 19 faculties comprising 220 departments and programs, 5 graduate schools with around 200 graduate and postgraduate programs, and 4 high schools, 28 research institutes, and has several international memberships. The University is already a full member of the European University Association (EUA), International Association of Universities (IAU) within the body of UNESCO, International Society for Engineering Education (IGIP), Joint Commission International (JCI), the Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW), 118 other national and international institutions and foundations, and moreover, many more membership applications related to various disciplines are already in progress.
The scientists and students of the university work on the research of problems and the prevention of cancer and in 2014 they joined the study of finding the ways to cure the Ebola virus. The university has its own supercomputer, which in terms of calculation speed and memory capacity is estimated to be the most powerful in the region and 13th in the world. NEU-IBM Research Center successfully works in the areas of medical sciences, chemistry, physics, astronomy, architecture and mathematics.
Near East University’s research team created the first in Northern Cyprus domestic automobile PA 25, running just on solar energy. The automobile was presented in a global event on the problems of using solar energy. The university has currently been developing a more advanced model of this automobile - РА 26, with the aim of launching it into series production as a family automobile.
The university keeps one of the best in the world herbarium, carrying out researches into history, politics and fabric development. The university is also involved in close cooperation with the Middle East University in the studies of the sea around Cyprus, water quality, marine biodiversity, genetic of sea organisms and the factors that threaten them.

The university has more than 40 operating laboratories equipped with the most advanced research equipment, 28 research institutes, as well as three museums: a communication, art and classic car museum.
NEU has a Medical Clinic, which is the most advanced in Northern Cyprus. The clinic has several research centers, including a center for medical radiology. The Department of Medicine, in the framework of strengthening health care in the country, carries out preventive medical examinations of students and schoolchildren.
The pride of the university is a library with an area of more than 15,000 square meters. m, including more than one million printed materials and more than 150 million electronic resources. The library has four departments, with a total capacity of 1000 people. Library services are used daily by up to seven thousand people.
NEU students are provided with comprehensive opportunities on campus, such as sports grounds, shops, restaurants, dormitories with a capacity of 5,000 people, health and fitness centers, hospitals, cafes, student clubs, a radio television center, library, Olympic pool, national and international banks, travel agencies, post office, regular buses, 24-hour security and healthcare.
Since its inception, Near East University, which primarily seeks to educate self-confident, highly qualified, dedicated and determined people, has achieved incredible successes and has grown into the largest higher educational institution and cultural center of Northern Cyprus.
The social life of the students of the university includes various clubs of interests, including sports, engineering, economics, teaching, architecture, law, medicine and aeronautics.
Most of the clubs cover such sports as basketball, football, tennis, volleyball, handball, horse riding, hiking, wrestling, athletics, cycling, swimming and chess. NEU has also a regular team of water ballet.
The university owns the only indoor Olympic swimming pool with area of 2,700 sq.m in Northern Cyprus. The members of NEU swimming team win medals of international competitions.
All international students upon admission to NEU receive a 50% scholarship on tuition.
